The American Research Institute of the Southern Caucasus (ARISC) announces the availability of US graduate fellowships in support of research in the South Caucasus (Armenia, Georgia, and/or Azerbaijan). We anticipate making four to six awards of a maximum of $1500 each. Projects in all fields in the social sciences and humanities are eligible. Proposals will be judged on their quality and on the potential of the research to strengthen scholarship on the Southern Caucasus. The purpose of the fellowship is to help cover travel to and/or living expenses in the Southern Caucasus. During his/her stay in the Southern Caucasus, the fellow is expected to give an ARISC sponsored presentation on a subject related to his/her research. The fellow will acknowledge ARISC in any publication that emerges from the research carried during the fellowship.

The program will take place in Bangalore, India, under the auspices of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA). The IIA is a premier national center devoted to research in astronomy, astrophysics and related physics, with its headquarters in Bangalore and laboratories located at Kodaikanal, Kavalur, Gauribidanur, Hanle, and Hosakote. The program will support four full-time summer research positions for 8 weeks between June and August (dates to be determined each year). For each participant, the program will provide round-trip air-coach travel to and from Bangalore, India, a stipend of US $500 per week, accommodation, miscellaneous travel (field trips) and incidental expenses, and medical expenses.

The purpose of SCGF is to support outstanding students to pursue graduate training in basic research areas of physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, computational sciences, and environmental sciences relevant to Department of Energy (DOE). The fellowship award provides partial tuition support ($10,500), an annual stipend for living expenses ($35,000), and a research stipend ($5,000 per year) for full-time graduate study and thesis/dissertation research for three years. DOE expects to award approximately 80 fellowships to begin in the Fall of 2010.

Fellowships are awarded for research conducted under faculty sponsorship on any one of the University of California's ten campuses. The University awards 15-20 postdoctoral fellowships every year. The annual award provides a salary of $40-50,000, depending on the field and level of experience. The award also includes health insurance, vision and dental benefits, and up to $4,000 for research-related expenses. Each award is for a 12-month period, renewable for one year upon demonstration of academic productivity and participation in program events.
